Wayanad (Beauty of Kerala)

Visit http://greatbackwaters.com/ and be fascinated with the 8 Lakh fans of God's Own Country from world over.

Kalpetta, the district headquarters of Wayanad is a natural beauty in itself.Bangalore (Karnataka) to Kalpetta (Kerala) is 277 km and takes approx 5 hrs to reach, The drive is also enjoyable and very scenic :)

We set out from Bangalore at 6 in the morning... After a coffee break at Kamat we reaches Nanjangud for Breakfast. The drive after this is beautiful and very scenic.

The first place we visited was "POOKOTE LAKE".
The Pookote Lake is a breathtaking location. The water is clear and the foliage that surrounds it is a beautiful forest. Boating is a nice thing to do there and also can shop for home made chocolates :)

Lakkidi view point is next on the list known for its breathtaking view.. Its around a km from the Pookote lake and easily reachable

Well after this there was time for only one more place and we decided to go for SOOCHIPARA FALLS.Its really a treasure of nature. A 1 km walk into the dense forest of Wayanad will lead you to the nature at its thundering best.

Finally we headed back to our resort "Royal Palms Residency" :) After a long night sleep we were all set for Chembra peak the next day.

Day 2 started with breakfast at Woodlands in Kalpetta.

CHEMBRA PEAK is the highest peak in Wayanad, at 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above sea level. Its located near the town of Meppady and is 14 km west of Kalpetta. You can get a guide at the bottom of the hill. Will be lucky if you get a English speaking guide.Well we were not quite lucky in that.

The trek started with a nice small walk along the tea gardens. Its a 5 hours trek so need to plan well. The first point to reach is the heart shaped lake and then after that one more hour of trek and you reach the top!!!
The view is breathtaking and the valleys look awesome.. Its a different world altogether. The pictures say it ALL!!!

PICTURE GALLERY :) :)

44 rivers, a vast network of lakes, 1500 kms of labyrinthine canals, snake boat races, over 300 species of birds, floating markets...
